West Park v's Wid Under 7s.

20th April 2008

Widnes under 7's travelled to West Park today and chalked up another 2 wins to add to their season tally.

It was a good turn out and we were able to field 2 teams.  The first match against West Park consisted of mainly our year 2 players and despite a few Widnes off sides meaning the play was returned to West Park the team convincingly won by 10 tries to 4.  The game was fast paced and the boys were whipping the tags from the opposition stopping them reaching their try line time and time again.  Try scorers were Harry West (1), Kayn Appleton (1), Matthew Owen (2) and Nathan Redmond(6)

The second match saw our youngest players (reception and year 1) taking on the 2nd West Park team this included a few substitutions from the year 2 players as the players tired.  Joshua Kenwright and Ryan Vickery won some superb tags, our new player James Cosgrove got his first try grabbing the play and losing the West Park players as he shot up the pitch. Final score West Park 4 Wids 5, Try scorers were Ryan Vickery (1), Alfie Tryer (1), Kane Blackburn(1) James Cosgrove (1) and Nathan Redmond (1).

Sunday 6 April, Ellesmere Port

Widnes u7s travelled to Ellesmere Port on a cold and snowy morning, they faced Sefton,  Helsby and Ellesmere Port, comfortably winning all 3 matches.  It was a good team turn out with some of the very new players coming too,  we were even able to loan some of our players to Sefton who were short of a few players.

The scores were Sefton 2 Wids 9, Helsby 2 Wids 5 and Ellesmere Port 4 Wids 7.

There were exciting moments in all 3 games, especially around the rather large puddle which players on all teams managed to succumb to it's icy touch, one Wids player even managed to drink the muddy water as he skidded through to grab an important tag.  Leading try scorer of the season Nathan Redmond added 13 more tries to his season tally.  Matthew Prescot and Matthew Owen who are hot on Nathan's tail scored some good tries too.  All Wids players in each match put in a good team effort closing down the opponents and forcing tag passes constantly wearing down the opposition effortlessly.
