WIDNES U9s
The season so far.........
The season started with a friendly
away win at Sefton. The boys were up
for this, after a very good
pre-season. We had a good balance
and shape to the side, and won this
match by a convincing 10 tries to 1.
This form continued into the
season, with a win away at Leigh, by
11 tries to 0. These wins ensured
the boys went into the festivals
full of confidence. We were
finalists in both Littleborough and
Manchester Tournaments only to be
defeated by a very strong Manchester
side on both occasions.
After the festivals we put the
boys through some tough training
sessions, and we regrouped to win
our next five matches very
comfortably. We then had our poorest
performance of the season, losing at
home to Vale of Lune,
The only other match we have
lost this season was away at
Liverpool Collegiate, (with a
sickness hit squad, losing by 2
tries to 1.) We had previously
defeated Collegiate in the
semi-final of the Manchester
festival, winning by 3 tries to 0.
We had a disappointing day at
the Vale of Lune tournament,
due largely to injuries and illness
in the squad. This left us down to
the 'bare bones.' We have recently
gained some new players
(all progressing well.)
As we drew towards the end of
the season, we hope to do well in
the remaining tournaments at
Rochdale and at Moseley.
We would welcome any new players
wishing to join the squad, and if
anyone is interested, please contact
Ian Beamish on 07836323078. We train
on Prescot Road every Wednesday
evening at 6.00 P.M.
